  • THE LEGISLATURE OF ENTRE RÍOS IS MOVING FORWARD IN THE TREATMENT OF THE BILL TO REGULATE THE HANDLING OF CEMENT BAGS OVER 25KG

THE LEGISLATIVE INITIATIVE PROPOSES TO REGULATE THE TRANSPORT OF CEMENT BAGS BY MECHANICAL MEANS ,IN THE PROVINCE OF ENTRE RÍOS, IN LINE WITH THE WORK INITIATED BY UOCRA THROUGH RESOLUTION 42/18 OF THE SUPERINTENDENCE OF LABOR RISKS (SRT).

The Department of Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) of UOCRA, together with the representation of the Argentinean Chamber of Construction (CAC), participated in the meeting of the Labour Commission of the Chamber of Deputies of Entre Ríos. At the meeting, they discussed the bill that intends to establish that any handling or displacement of cement bags, whose weight is over 25 kilos, must be carried out with the assistance of mechanical means.
The authorship of the initiative belongs to the Representative Manuel Troncoso, and it was the main topic of the agenda of the Labour Committee of the Lower House. The Secretary of General Coordination of the Ministry of Production, Tourism and Economic Development, Ricardo Armocida, was invited to participate in the debate. He expressed the support of the Executive Power, in general terms, to the initiative and said that "any law that leads to improve the quality of life of workers and productivity is welcomed".

The representative of the Occupational Health and Safety Department (OSH) of UOCRA, Mauro Posada, talked about the tasks carried out from the Construction Board and about how the resolution of the Superintendence of Occupational Risks (SRT) was approved, thanks to the initiative of our trade union organization. Posada also highlighted the importance of the project, stating that “what matters is the workers' health".

In this context, he referred statistically to the impact of certain working conditions on the health of workers: "20% of accidents are related to excessive weight, when 60% of sales in the cement market are bagged". In this regard, he affirmed that the SRT resolution allows improving working conditions, reducing occupational accidents and future occupational diseases.

The president of the Advisory Committee on Labour, Safety and Hygiene Matters of the Argentine Chamber of Construction, Ricardo López, was also present at the meeting. He made his observations and expressed that the measure "is a necessary change to benefit workers in the sector". In addition, López assured that "the use of technology is favourable for the health care of workers".

The committee meeting, chaired by the provincial representative Manuel Troncoso, was attended by the legislator Mariana Farfán and the representatives José Kramer, José Cáceres, Juan Manuel Huss and Eduardo Solari.
