GERARDO MARTÍNEZ IN CHARGE OF THE ARGENTINEAN DELEGATION LED FULL AND VARIED AGENDA ON KEY ISSUES OF WORLD OF WORK

107TH INTERNATIONAL LABOUR CONFERENCE

From 28 May to June 8, the International Labour Conference took place in Genova, Switzerland where the Argentinean delegation took an active role in discussions related to work commissions such as Rules, Violence and Labour Abuse, Tripartite and Social Dialogue and Contribution to Development, among others.

The CGTA RA international Affairs Secretary was the voice of the Group of Workers in the Commission of Rules presenting the cases of Honduras for Convention 87 and Bolivia for convention 131.

Gerardo Martínez took part in in the debate on convention 98 in the case of Brazil stating that: We the workers affirm that the introduced legislative amendments such as the case of Brazil, are a major problem with regards to labour right reductions cutting short the benefit of access to basic social and economic rights for workers. Once again, we call for an institutionalized effective and social dialogue which allows to overcome this issue.

Regarding the Commission of Violence and Labour Abuse, the International Labour Conference opted for a convention complemented with recommendations about Violence and Abuse in the world of work which will be discussed as the same time as the ILO’s centenary next year.

At the Commission of Social and Tripartite Dialogue, the importance of reinforcing the collective negotiation for workers and the centrality of social dialogue as a necessary condition to reach social justice were addressed.

On the other hand, for the commission of Cooperation to Development the main landmarks for the union trade movement were the commitments of transparency and accountability mainly in the participation of the private sector in the cooperation.

Likewise, the workers from Argentina participated in the Meeting of Workers of the Americas, the meeting on the L20, the summit on the future of work, the presentation of the report on violations of human and trade union rights submitted by the ITUC and the celebration of the international day against child labour, among others.
