The Child Labour Exploitation Conference, organized by Foundation Construir Futuro, took place in the headquarters of the Building Workers Union (UOCRA) in the presence of our General Secretary and Honorary President of Foundation Construir Futuro Gerardo Martinez; National Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Carlos Tomada, National Secretary of Human Rights Eduardo Luis Duhalde; and ILO Bureau Director in Argentina Javier González Olaechea Franco.
The aim of this meeting was to analyze the causes and effects of these issues, know the current situation of exploited children and teenagers and coordinate common strategies in order to prevent and eradicate all forms of child labour. These topics were carried out by specialists in this field.
For ILO Argentina, Gustavo Ponce; Member of the CGT Multidisciplinary Advisory Team, Susana Santomingo; Chairperson, National Commission for Child Labor Eradication [CONAETI] María del Pilar Rey Méndez; Secretary of Culture, Sports and Training (UATRE) Clemente Iriarte; Advisor for Childhood, Adolescence and Women Commission of Buenos Aires City Council, María Elena Naddeo; Ad Hoc Ombudsman of National General Protection, Gustavo Gallo; Manager of Proniño Program of Fundación Telefónica María Bibiana Ottones and Secretary of Foundation Construir Futuro Leonardo Ruseff were panelists at the conference.
During the opening speech, Gerardo Martinez, explained why UOCRA Social Network decided to start the Foundation Construir Futuro which has assisted more than 300 children and adolescents in exploitation or social risk situation in its Home Peldaños and expressed his conviction that trade unions must be the main actors in this matter, with an active commitment to articulate preventive actions.
In turn, Minister Tomada praised the work of UOCRA and
Construir Futuro and said in advance that these issues made the National Government include the subject labour rights to be taught during the school year. Specific issues such as the Institutional Approach of Child Labour and Legislation and Rules for Child Labour Exploitation were discussed and analyzed, coming to the conclusion that the involvement and participation is the responsibility of all social actors in order to achieve particular mechanisms of action that protect young people rights and reduce and eradicate child labour and exploitation.
