REGIONAL SEMINAR ON MULTINATIONAL BUILDING ENTERPRISES – BWI – BUENOS AIRES

 “Regional Seminar on Multinational Building Enterprises and the expectations of MERCOSUR organizations”, organized by the Building and Wood Workers' International [BWI], takes place in Buenos Aires at UOCRA headquarters from November 2 to 4 2009, framed within a general objective so as to define joint union actions for the different labour alternatives in Latin America and the Caribbean and mainly to contribute to the development of proposals and actions from the national and regional trade union organizations related to the Multinational enterprises activities; to elaborate an action plan, strengthen actions on Outsourcing and consolidate actions towards the BWI International Congress –December 2009-.

Union leaders from affiliated organizations of Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay take part in the Seminar.
Within the framework of the Seminar activities and as an outstanding action a Frame Agreement was signed by and between the Argentine Building Workers Union (UOCRA) and the National Construction and Allied Trades Union of Uruguay (SUNCA): represented by their General Secretaries Gerardo Martinez and Pedro Porley,  it was pointed out that both of them are the organizations that represent building workers in Argentina and Uruguay as well, leader entities in the fight for decent and quality work, flying the unalienable flags for registered job, health and life care of workers and defending  workers and their families rights.

The present agreement establishes the development of an INTEGRAL PROGRAM OF INSTITUTIONAL COOPERATION, so as to: a) Train union leaders; b) Train workers for safe and qualified jobs; c) Prevent Labour Risks and other actions.
BWI Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean Carlos Salguero was there to express his support to the Frame Agreement between the fraternal trade unions UOCRA and SUNCA.

Gerardo Martinez as President of BWI for Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighted the importance of the entered agreement to be known among the BWI organizations, based in the exchange of actions and experiences for a better defense of the workers’ rights.
