Summit on Climate Change, Copenhagen 2009 GERARDO MARTÍNEZ: “WE CANNOT BE SUSTAINABLE IN TIME IF POLICIES ARE NOT CLEAR. ACCORDINGLY WE APPEAL TO A FAIR TRANSITION WITH DECENT WORK"
As the Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI) and the Argentinean Confederation of Labour (CGT-RA) representative, Gerardo Martinez participated and spoke on behalf of the workers in the “World of Work Pavilion" (WoW), organized as a parallel activity to the United Nations (UN) Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen.
Martínez highlighted the trade union organizations commitment to “train workers through Professional Training Centers, in the development of Alternative Energies Programmes, since these actions provide great opportunities to create green and decent jobs so as traditional jobs are improved and become social and environmental sustainable”.
Besides, he posed that “to travel this way, it is necessary an adequate and permanent financing on the part of developed countries with the aim of ensuring a real advance of vulnerable countries, being this one a reason of global justice”. During his exposure, Martínez posed that “we cannot be sustainable in time if policies are not clear and if working environment conditions are affected or damaged. Accordingly, we appeal to a fair transition with decent work".
