GUY RYDER, ALONG WITH THE HIGHEST UNION REPRESENTATIVES, ANALYSED WORKERS’ SITUATION AT GLOBAL, REGIONAL AND NATIONAL LEVELS

ILO’S GENERAL DIRECTOR RECEIVED UNION CENTRES OF ARGENTINA

  • GUY RYDER, ALONG WITH THE HIGHEST UNION REPRESENTATIVES, ANALYSED WORKERS’ SITUATION AT GLOBAL, REGIONAL AND NATIONAL LEVELS

GENERAL DIRECTOR OF THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANIZATION (ILO), PRESENT IN THE CITY OF BUENOS AIRES WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE IV GLOBAL CONFERENCE ON THE SUSTAINED ERADICATION OF CHILD LABOUR, MET THE HIGHEST REPRESENTATIVES OF UNION CENTRES OF ARGENTINA. THIS MEETING WAS ORGANIZED BY GERARDO MARTINEZ, CGT RA INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS SECRETARY AND FULL MEMBER OF THE ILO MANAGEMENT BOARD.

Different authorities of ILO accompanied Ryder, such as Christian Ramos (Director-General’s Office), Pedro Furtado de Oliveira (Director of the office in Argentina and general responsible for the Southern Cone) and José María Salazar (Director of ILO’s Office in Lima, Peru), in addition to having the participation of Victor Báez, General Secretary of the Trade Union Confederation of The Americas (TUCA) 
On behalf of CGT RA, apart from Gerardo Martinez, Juan Carlos Schmid (General Secretary of the CGT RA), Andrés Rodriguez (UPCN), Rodolfo Daer (STIA), Julio Plumato (UEJN), Ramón Ayala (UATRE) and Jorge Sola, (CGT RA’s Press Secretary) among others, attended the Conference
As a representative of the CTA Autónoma, General Secretary Pablo Michelo was present, while, on the other hand, on behalf of CTA, Roberto Baradal, International Relations Secretary, attended the Conference.
Throughout the meeting, a comprehensive analysis of workers’ situation at a global, regional and national level was carried out. In addition to highlighting the importance of the execution of the IV Global Conference on the Sustained Eradication of Child Labour, and the execution, in Argentina also for the next year, of the L20 Meeting with Gerardo Martinez as President of this group.
In the closure of the meeting, Guy Ryder evaluated the socio-occupation situation of the region and encouraged to keep union action emphasizing the potential and the organized workers movement strength of Argentina, and highlighting the intervention of Gerardo Martinez in his role as representative of Argentina’s workers and as a member of the Management Board of the ILO.
